Re: El Cerrito Swarm Under Bart Tracks

Hi everyone,

I had to give up on this catch. After scraping a baseball-sized clump of bees and comb off the surface, I could see that there's a hole in the concrete, likely with an established hive inside (see photo). There was nectar in the comb, and several drones (but no queen) in the bees I got in my bucket. So I think they've been here a while. More bees immediately came out of the hole.

Does anyone in this group have connections at BART and/or the city of El Cerrito to see if they want to address the issue? An extraction would be beyond me, but maybe someone else would take it on. A person using the walking path told me a hive moves in every few years, so it's an ongoing problem.

Not super high… maybe 15’ up.  Certainly reachable with pole and bucket.  Maybe soccer ball size.  Under bart tracks in El Cerrito.
