Hey, this guy asked me to come out yesterday and I took a look this morning. I concluded it wasn't a job for me -- but I thought I'd respost and share my findings for anyone interested in pursuing it.
Bees are coming in through a crack next to a largely fake chimney on the second floor. I located them through a hole in the drywall on the inside of the house, but unfortunately they're not building off the two by four at the top of the wall framing. they're up above it, possibly accessible through the fascia on the second story, though I wouldn't rule out having to go through stucco. If you're comfortable doing that, the owern does at least have a two story ladder. They've been there for about two weeks now.
There are not accessible via the attic.
Pictures included. First is exterior, second is from an endoscope poking in from the outside and the third is from poking the endoscope up past the top of the framing. If any old hands don't want the job but do want to advise on how they'd pursue I'd happily take suggestions offline. Otherwise, though, anybody who wants this one should reach out to the owner. Owner was nice and is fine handling the repair work later.
Final note: these bees were quite defensive -- While I generally don't wear a suit during extractions, i needed to do so here.
All in all, its' a pretty complicated one. Owner's phone is listed in the original email below.
