This one turned out to be a bit involved. I got there quickly, and there was a bit of commotion. Swarm was small to medium sized, on the windscreen and under the hood of a parked car. A young man had already placed a mini square box (one of those Teemu Eco-hive copies" on the hood of the car and said he wanted to collect the swarm. He was polite, and so I decided not to argue, but instead offered to help, which I did. I explained that his box was a toy, and that the bees are not, and asked him if he had a plan for how to care for the bees. He said he had a full size box at home but was planning on keeping the swarm in the small box for now. I explained that this would not be possible, as the swarm was too big, and the box would overheat and suffocate the bees. I also explained that the bees did not seem interested in moving into his box, and that he could expect to have to wait a day or two before they would, if they would not take off first. I said I'd help him only if he would take directions, which he agreed to.Still it turned into a 4 hour project, as the queen was hiding under the hood of the car. Passerbuys kept asking questions, but at a respectful distance, and everyone was happy I wss there. Except one lady who was filming me. She said she was allergic to bees and did not care whether we got the swarm or not. I said thank you for volunteering her opinion, but if she really was allergic, perhaps she had better go back to do what she was doing and not engage with the bees nor us. Anyway, she said she knew the owner of the car, and was pretty sure he did not want us to touch his car. When we were almost done, she claimed to have called the owner of the car and that he had told her that he did not want us to touch his car. Well, that was a bit late, and so I just ignored her and scooped up the last stragglers and we were on our way. I took the box to the young man's home, and transferred the swarm to a 10-frame Langstroth. I offered to come by in a few days and help him with his first inspection.Overall a positive experience, except for the annoying lady. But most people were just curious. That's all she wrote. On Sat, Apr 19, 2025 at 1:58 PM Sverre Slotfeldt <slotfeldt [at] gmail.com> wrote:Will do!On Sat, Apr 19, 2025 at 1:57 PM Elinor Levine <elevine [at] berkeley.edu> wrote:Go now, and deal with the caution tape afterwards. On Sat, Apr 19, 2025 at 1:56 PM Sverre Slotfeldt via swarm-list <swarm-list [at] alamedabees.org> wrote:My bad, I can go right now and am close, but I do not have caution tape.On Sat, Apr 19, 2025 at 1:54 PM Sverre Slotfeldt <slotfeldt [at] gmail.com> wrote:I can go and am ready.
