    What you do to repopulate your hives, of course, depends a bit on
    how deep your pockets are. 
    I can think of a couple of people who would sell you proven colonies
    right now. 
    With bees this winter you can set them up to produce honey starting
    in February. 
    If you want free-bees, you either have to wait until spring to
    collect swarms, and/or set up bait-hives. 
    Free, but they won't have time enough to make much honey next
    spring. 
    
    Extractions are another option now, but there haven't been as many
    cutouts from playhouses,
    or sheds, or abandoned buildings, or sprinkler valve boxes this year
    compared to some previous years.
    
    The swarm hotline expects fewer than 50 calls for all the rest of
    the year, and none are likely to be swarms. 
    (an absconding colony might look like a swarm.) 
    
    Sung Lee wanted to collect that "swarm" in a wine barrel tomorrow,
    probably after Hal's memorial.
    You could try to convince him that you need it more than he does.
