Beekeeping is such an awesome hobby.  I met Denrie while manning the bee booth at the fair last Saturday.  He mentioned that he had kept bees in Jamaica for many (10+) years but had not had bees since he moved to the states about five years ago.  His passion for bees was obvious.  We exchanged a few texts during the week and he agreed to purchase a couple of swarms that I had baited in about a month ago.  He picked up the swarms and placed them in an apiary last night.  I expect that he, as an experienced beekeeper and not having any real gear at the moment, viewed my apiary as a resource from which to go capture the Danville swarm this morning.  

It was a pretty fun capture.  Denrie showed up at my place with his two children to help gather the necessary gear… a pole, a bucket, a pair of limb clippers, bee suits, and a dead out that was conveniently sitting on one of my stands.  We drove separate cars to meet Scott at his beautiful home in Danville.  It took about three cycles of Denrie shaking bees into the bucket while on the ladder, handing the bucket down to me, and me pouring them into the box.  We hung around talking bees with Scott and his family until we were convinced that the queen was in the box.  Denrie will return this evening to pick up the swarm and move them to an apiary in Oakland… but that will be AFTER he goes up to his apiary in Berkeley to move the bees he got from me out of my boxes and into his.  Like I said, his passion is obvious.

Paula… thanks.  I read the earlier post that had the height listed AFTER sending my height request.  Denrie and I will do it.  Not sure why I’m going to do it because I do not need bees… but it’ll be an opportunity to work with a new local beekeeper…  Greg
