There was a "removal" done before where the bees are now.
The big clump has been on the wall there for many days.
So perhaps there's a colony in the bathroom wall that's bearding out.
OR from the previous removal the odor has attracted a swarm
that's having a hard time moving in and hasn't given up yet.

Sounds gnarly either way.
